Vavasour Wines are the pioneers of the
Awatere Valley. We were the first to plant
in what is now regarded as one of the premium grape
growing regions of Marlborough, New Zealand.
The soils here are free draining and the climate dry, warm and frost free. The area has a climate different to the rest of Marlborough so can produce wines with a unique and distinct flavour.
Each year outstanding parcels of grapes
are earmarked for special attention. When
the resulting wine is regarded as outstanding,
it forms the small quantity of wine under
the Vavasour banner.
While the fruit is the driving force in Vavasour wines, there
is more focus on the structure, subtleties
and complexity. The Vavasour range is designed
to improve with age.
The Dashwood and Redwood Pass ranges, also produced by Vavasour Wines, are earlier drinking styles of wine produced from grapes grown in the Awatere Valley and the neighbouring Wairau Valley.
The blending of grapes from these two distinct growing areas benefits the wine with aromatics from the Wairau Valley fruit, and mineral notes from the Awatere Valley fruit.

4 ELITE GOLD AT AIR NZ WINE AWARDS
Vavasour Wines and sister winery Goldwater Wines have won four prestigious Elite Gold medals at the 2007 Air New Zealand Wine Awards. The new Elite Gold award is for wines that are awarded 57 points or more out of a maximum of 60 points awarded in total.
Our wines won 3 of the 8 Elite Gold medals awarded to Sauvignon Blanc wines- a stunning achievement for all our team.

VAVASOUR SAUVIGNON BLANC 2006 TAKES THE TROPHY
 
We know it's an awesome wine as do many others down here in the southern hemisphere but now the northern hemisphere has finally caught on!
Vavasour Sauvignon Blanc 2006 has been awarded the trophy for the best Sauvignon Blanc 2007 at the prestigious International Wine and Spirits Competition 2007 in London. Founded in 1969, it is the premier competition of its kind in the world.
"To put this achievement into perspective, the IWSC Sauvignon Blanc Trophy is the pinnacle of success for a Sauvignon Blanc. All Sauvignon Blancs that were awarded Gold medals from all over the world competed for this trophy, having already been judged at country level. Nearly 300 Sauvignon Blancs entered the competition this year from all over the world - New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, France, Australia, USA, Hungary and Greece to name a few of the seventeen countries they received entries from. From this vast selection five Sauvignons went forward as the 'best of the best' to compete for the Sauvignon Blanc Trophy and Vavasour Sauvignon Blanc won!"
Judges Tasting Notes “Watery greenish lemon colour. Wonderful aromas, asparagus, grapefruit, cut grass and kiwi fruits. Beautifully crisp in the mouth, with citrus acidity giving a real zing, lovely ripeness of fruit and a fine lingering finish”

Cellar Door Hours
Vavasour Wines is located 24 km south of Blenheim,
in the Awatere Valley. Travel south from Blenheim on State Highway 1 for 20km , turn left onto Redwood Pass Road and follow for 4km.
The cellar door is incorporated into the working winery to provide a truly authentic wine tasting experience. Visitors are welcome.
