Vavasour Awatere Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2004
The Press - Brian Prebble, 20 January, 2005
"A classic Marlborough savvy - pale straw hue and gooseberry aroma and taste - but not as extravagantly fruity as most. This clean, elegant wine, made from Awatere grapes, has Vavasour's trademark crispness and long finish. Good with food, great with a sip-along with friends."

Chalky smelling, a little earthy, with grassy characters and sweet fruit on the nose. Ripe and fruity with juicy melon, citrus and tropical fruit, nicely balanced with a good seam of acidity through and pungently varietal SB characters of gooseberry and summer herbs lingering with apple-like fruit on the finish. Clean, varietal, seamless with a long finish, it has all the goods without being over the top.

A distintive cool climate style; fresh asparagus and petit pois. Not as pungent as some but with impressive concentration and good depth of flavour. The wine finishes dry and with good length.
