The 2006 season was one of the earliest on record and provided almost perfect weather from flowering through to harvest. Warm summer and autumn temperatures allowed the Riesling to ripen fully. Flavour development was aided by the cool nights during the crucial period leading up to harvest.
This Vavasour Riesling was hand harvested from the Vavasour vineyard in the Awatere Valley during the cool of early morning. The grapes were then whole bunch pressed to retain delicacy and elegance. Fermentation was stopped with 52g/L residual sugar.
Vavasour Riesling 2006 is a pale straw colour. The nose shows lifted ginger and lime notes with a hint of floral aroma. The palate is full and luscious, and exhibits lime and mineral characters with rich stone fruit flavours on the finish. The style is rich with the residual sugar carefully balanced by the natural acidity.
This Riesling is drinking well now, and over the next 3 years.
The 2006 Vavasour Riesling is sealed with screw cap to ensure optimum quality.
