Vavasour Awatere Valley Pinot Gris 2006
Geoff Kelly Wine Reviews, May 2007
Lemon-green. Bouquet is exceptionally pure, and fragrant in the sense of a freshly-bitten sturmer apple, complex in a very light way. Palate introduces more typical white pear flesh flavours, a suggestion of cinnamon spice on the light tannins associated with this variety, and again extraordinary purity. In its subtlety, it is highly varietal in the pale New Zealand style, and given its balance, it should be well worth cellaring 5 – 8 years. 18/20.

TEAM CHOICE
Pale gold colour. Pleasant aromatic nose. Nicely defined fruit flavours of lemon and pear. The palate is firm and textural showing good concentration and complexity. Dryish - not overtly sweet. Beautifully balanced. Nice wine.

Weighty, clearly varietal wine with good depth of lemon, pear and spice flavours, fresh and lively. Awatere Valley wine, 15 per cent
barrel-fermented. 3.5 stars.

Our one representative from the Awatere, had widespread support, Bourne noting, "lemon curd and quince, with spicy overtones. Long and vibrant." Otton said; "Pink apple aroma plus lemongrass. Lightness and intensity." I liked the way the wine achieved depth of flavourand length without being noticably hot.
