The 2006 Anna’s Vineyard Chardonnay is an elegant, complex
wine showing apricot fruit and “biscuity” notes on the nose.
The rich, silky textured palate exhibits the same fine flavours with a long mineral finish.
The 2006 season was almost perfect. A warm summer and
autumn allowed the Chardonnay to ripen fully. Flavour
development was aided by the cool nights during the crucial
period leading up to harvest. The grapes for this wine were
carefully hand picked from low yielding Clone 95 (70%) and
Mendoza (30%) grapes. The Mendoza adds richness to the
elegant Clone 95.
After handpicking the fruit was whole bunch pressed, to preserve the fine fruit flavours, and fermented in 75% new French oak barriques with indigenous yeast. The wine was aged on lees for 10 months to further enhance texture and flavour.
Previous Release:
The last time nature provided us with an outstanding crop was in 2004. The resulting 2004 Anna’s Chardonnay went on to win a trophy for Champion Chardonnay at the Liquorland Top 100 Wine Awards in 2006. We expect the 2006 vintage Anna’s Vineyard Chardonnay will continue a proud tradition. You be the judge.
