Redwood Pass Sauvignon blanc 2006 reviews

Redwood Pass Sauvignon Blanc 2006

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit Issue 2, August 2007

Made from predominantly Awatere Valley fruit with Wairau Valley making up the balance.  A beautifully attractive nose showing passion fruit, floral and herbal notes combined with a mineral complexity.  The entry to the palate is sweet and succulent with lively mouth feel adding more appeal.  A very approachable, delicious Sauvignon.  At its best: now to 2008.

Jo Burzynska, Viva Magazine, 8th August 2007

While many cheaper sauvignons lack the vibrancy that's so attractive in the variety, the Redwood Pass with its soft melon, green herbs and lime has greater intensity than many more expensive examples. Made by reliable Awatere based estate Vavasour, this blend from grower vineyards in the Awatere and Wairau Valleys seriously over-deliversat this price and is easily one of the best value sauvignons around.

Winestate, February 2007

Crisp, appley, limey style, 70 per cent Awatere Valley.  Not intense but fresh and vibrantly fruity.

Best Buy of the tasting

Top Ten New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs

... Full marks to Vavasour, whose Redwood Pass 2006 is simply the best-value Sauvignon Blanc on the market.
More than a match for some labels that ask $10 more, this classic regional style is the steal of the tasting. A surprisingly full-bodied wine with very pure and pungent melon and green capsicum flavours

Recommended white wines - under $20

While most of the praise has been heaped on Vavasour's succulent Dashwood sauvignon blanc, there has also been plenty of smart money on this second fiddle, which was launched last year. This is one in the same mould - melons, limes, crisp and crunchy gooseberries.
